Sports Injuries Prevention and Rehabilitation

Sports Injury Prevention & Performance Enhancement

Troubled by recurrent injury?
Need to stay fit?
Want to play better?

If you are serious about your sport, have a recurring injury or want to perform to a higher level, our screening and retraining system will help you get the best results.

Identifying and classifying movement faults is fast becoming the cornerstone of contemporary rehabilitative sports and neuromusculoskeletal practice. The screening systems that we utilize in A-Z PHYSIO HEALTH (Kinetic Control & Performance Matrix) enable us to assess, diagnose, classify and retrain uncontrolled movement to manage pain, improve function, correct impairments and prevent recurrence. In particular, Perfromance Matrix is used by clubs, clinics and professional sports teams to help their members, athletes and players maintain training consistency and competitive performance by identifying and removing the uncontrolled movements, which if left unmanaged, can lead to disruptive injuries!

The essence of our Sports Injury Prevention philosophy is encapsulated in the following: ’Small uncontrolled movements you don’t even notice can limit your ability to move or play and create hidden weaknesses that suddenly turn into injuries. But get rid of these and immediately your body becomes more efficient, so you  perform better and for longer.

That’s what The Performance Matrix system does. By using a series of special movement tests, it will:

• Identify your potential problem areas
• Create a detailed and individual report that you, your trainer or physio can use to develop an effective programme that will retrain your weaknesses so you will not have to stop training or playing

Other screening tools that we utilize at A-Z PHYSIO HEALTH is the Functional Movement Screen (FMS), which  is a ranking and grading system that documents movement patterns that are key to normal function. By screening these patterns, the FMS readily identifies functional limitations and asymmetries. These are issues that can reduce the effects of functional training and physical conditioning and distort body awareness.

The FMS generates the Functional Movement Screen Score, which is used to target problems and track progress. This scoring system is directly linked to the most beneficial corrective exercises to restore mechanically sound movement patterns.

Exercise professionals monitor the FMS score to track progress and to identify those exercises that will be most effective to restore proper movement and build strength in each individual.

Our therapists are trained to utilize both screening tools (Performance Matrix & FMS) so as more holistically & comprehensively evaluate athletes and screen them for risk of injuries!

Sports Injury Rehabilitation

A-Z PHYSIO HEALTH’s Sports Injury Rehabilitation program is proud to offer specialized evaluation and treatment of a wide variety of orthopaedic and musculoskeletal disorders and injuries. While we treat a large number of sports-related injuries, our rehabilitation services are not just for athletes, but for any active person with a musculoskeletal problem who wants to return to physical activity, including those who have undergone joint replacement surgery or have work-related overuse injuries. Our physiotherapists serve a diverse patient population ranging in age from pre-teens to people in their sixties, seventies, eighties and beyond.

One of our major areas of focus is post-operative rehabilitation for patients who have conditions that require orthopaedic surgery, including:

  • ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction
  • Knee meniscus repair
  • Hip and knee arthroscopy
  • Foot and ankle surgery
  • Rotator cuff repair
  • Shoulder stabilization
  • Shoulder arthroscopy
  • Fracture repair
  • Total joint replacement
  • Spine surgery
The physiotherapist will evaluate the patient post-operatively and develop a treatment plan. This typically involves two to three sessions per week at the start, eventually tapering to one session per week as the patient improves.

In addition, our physiotherapists treat many patients for conditions that do not require surgery, with the goal of avoiding surgery if possible. These conditions include:

  • Neck and low-back pain
  • Arthritis
  • Hip and knee injuries
  • Foot and ankle disorders
  • Muscle strains and tears
  • Joint sprains
  • Tendinitis, bursitis, and overuse injuries such as runner’s knee, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, and ITB (ilio-tibial band) syndrome
  • Shoulder impingement and instability
